Greetings! It is with pleasure that I welcome you to the web site of the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) at The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) – Jamaica's national university.

Our school has its roots in the department of computer studies that dates back to the early 1970’s as one of the first units in the College of Arts, Science, and Technology (CAST). When UTech got its charter in 1995, the School was officially formed as the School of Computing and Information Technology ( SCIT) under its first Head of School Dahlia Fuller. Twenty five years later, we celebrate a quarter century of excellence, supported by exponential growth. Although regarded as a young school, our tradition of excellence and innovation is entwined with a culture of diversity, reflected in our dedicated faculty and growing alumni base of over 3,000 graduates.

Our mission is to Educate and foster inquisitive minds, while actively serving the community through outreach programs and in so doing mold motivated graduates who will contribute to Jamaica’s economics and standards through technology.

The school has three courses of study: BSC, BSCIT, BCMS, and a division of Internet and Communication Technologies. At the graduate level we offer specializations in Computer Science and Information Technology. A wide variety of minors are also available under the Information Technology Major, these include Enterprise Systems, Information Systems, Networking and Multimedia. Currently there are two MS and two PhD degree programmes in computer science, and information systems. We also offer joint graduate programs in collaboration with Regis University.

With over 40 full-time faculty members, our school boasts an enrollment of close to 1,500 students. Each year, we graduate about 250 students with BS degrees. Our programmes now rank among the best in the country. SCIT is also increasing its research drive. One great example of this is our SAPNA initiative. Where we mold the minds of our young people to not only think of research initiatives that will better our standard of living and economy but to plan, execute and implement these researches. As we form partnerships with industries across the globe it is these researches that will become one of the driving factors behind change and innovation. The School of Computing and Information Technology is the research engine within the university and a force for economic development in Jamaica.
